Nebraska Public Power District is Hiring a Fleet Technician Near North Platte, NE

Nebraska Public Power District (NPPD) has an immediate opening for a Fleet Technician located at North Platte Office, Ogallala Operations Center, Scottsbluff Officein North Platte, Nebraska. Position closes May 30, 2024, at 11:59 p.m. Central Time.

This position will report to a Fleet Technician Supervisor.

Position Summary

This position is responsible for performing hydraulic, mechanical, electrical, and radio remote control inspection, maintenance, and repair of NPPD hydraulic equipment to assure safe, reliable, and efficient operation. Perform maintenance, up-fit, and repairs on chasses, vehicles, and equipment as assigned. When necessary, perform maintenance and repairs of mobile generators and support retirement of fleet equipment. Orient operators and their supervisors on proper use and care of equipment. Responsibilities include travel including overnight stays for individuals assigned to field locations as well as travel, including overnight stays as needed for individuals assigned to the York Operations Center. All personnel will be expected to respond to emergencies.

Education, Training and Experience

Associates Degree in a technical area plus one year experience required OR high school diploma/GED plus 3 years' experience as required.

Experience required: utility/heavy equipment maintenance and operation, maintenance and operation of hydraulic equipment.

Experience desired: aerial lifts, digger derricks, and crane maintenance.

The incumbent must be able to drive and/or operate numerous pieces of equipment including but not limited to: aerial devices, digger/derricks, cranes, trucks and tractor trailers of all sizes, construction equipment such as dozers, loaders, excavators, draglines, etc. to move them and to evaluate their operation.

Licenses and/or Certifications

Class B Commercial Driver's License is required.
Class A Commercial Driver's License is desired.
Crane/areal inspector certification from accredited group desired

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Perform periodic inspections of hydraulic equipment in the shop and/or field, such as aerial devices, digger/derricks, and mobile cranes to assure structural and functional integrity and reliability. Repair and maintain said equipment and perform dielectric tests on insulated equipment annually to assure they meet dielectric standards. Both the inspections and dielectric tests are set forth in ANSI standards.

Diagnose, analyze, and evaluate hydraulic equipment for condition, maintenance and repairs. This work will take place at the Fleet shop and in the field, as necessary. Work with the Fleet Services Supervisors, Fleet Service Coordinator, and customers to coordinate scheduling of work and decisions about where work will be done on equipment and machines.

Perform chassis and heavy equipment maintenance and repairs as needed. Perform maintenance work on the large mobile generators and small utility equipment in support of Shop Services and transmission/distribution operations as needed.

Operate hydraulic test and analysis equipment such as dynamometers, load monitoring equipment and electronic test equipment, flow meters, and hydraulic test stands to diagnose and analyze hydraulic equipment problems.

Orient operators and their supervisors on proper operation and maintenance of vehicles and equipment, such as aerial devices, cranes, digger/derricks and knuckle booms and their associated equipment.

Prepare accurate and timely inspection reports, job tickets, inventory sheets, and other accounting documents. Retrieval of SAP work orders and confirmation of time in SAP is necessary for the Technicians.

Maintain proper care, cleanliness, and condition of tools, equipment, vehicles and work area. Field personnel will be expected to maintain parts and supplies in their service truck/trailer.

Salary Information - Nebraska Public Power District offers a competitive starting salary with opportunities for growth. In addition to the base salary range listed below, NPPD employees may also be eligible for our Annual Incentive Program (AIP) that may supplement total compensation at a level above and beyond the stated salary range. Successful applicants will be provided more information regarding the incentive program at the time of an interview.

Pay Grade - 12

Typical Pay Grade Starting Salary Range: $35.22 - $44.03

Travel Required: 25% to 50% (With frequent overnight stays, more than 3 per month, typically within state of Nebraska) Travel required may fluctuate by business need. This is an estimate and will be discussed further with candidates that receive an interview.
